- All Heathdale Hornets teams are representing the College, and are therefore based on the foundational ethic of Heathdale Christian College – Christian faith, life and practice.
- Coaches are to encourage and train players to participate to the full extent of their God-given potential – to be and to do their best.
- Attitude will be emphasised equally with ability – good sportsmanship equally important as good performance. Christ-likeness is to be modelled at all times.
- Coaches will teach and train their players to compete within the proper rules of the sport, and with complete regard for the physical welfare of their opponents.
- All team participants, players, coaches and supporters, are to uphold encouragement and positive communication as the appropriate way to liaise with each other, with other teams and with sporting officials.
- If need arises to question the performance of another team, or the umpiring of a game, the proper process is as follows:
- The coach makes a direct, post-match approach to the appropriate person (referee, opposing coach, sporting official, etc.), and communicates the concern calmly, graciously and free of accusation or personal attack.
- If further action is required, the Heathdale Hornets committee is to be briefed in full and the matter then dealt with by their chosen representative.
- All official complaints or courses of action must be sanctioned by the Office Bearers of the Heathdale Hornets.
- All coaches are under the authority of the Heathdale Hornets committee. If a coach’s behaviour is called into question, a representative appointed by the committee will endeavour to resolve the issue. If unable to do so, the committee will organise a hearing with the coach and determine an appropriate course of action.
- If the behaviour of a team member or supporter is questionable, the coach will address the issue immediately by re-communicating the principles of this Code of Conduct. If further action is required, the coach will raise the issue with their committee to determine the appropriate course of action.
As Christian sporting teams, our example should be that of Jesus Christ – in how we speak, behave, interact, train, play and in how we respond to the result of the game/match.
